Rosehill Theatre and The Green Room restaurant are located near Whitehaven, in West Cumbria, with stunning sunsets over the Solway Firth.

The intimate theatre, a “rose-red silk-lined jewel box” which opened in 1959, presents a varied programme including music, drama, comedy, craft and other workshops, film, live screenings and more, all driven by a consistent aim for high quality. Over the years, performers have ranged from David Bowie to Nigel Kennedy, from John Gielgud to Lesley Garrett and from Zoe Lyons to The Fureys.

The contemporary restaurant on the top floor is the perfect place to relax and savour the food created by our team, led by head chef Jon Fell, a champion of Cumbrian cuisine. From light bites and afternoon tea to à la carte and pre-theatre dining, our menus showcase seasonal produce and include vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Rosehill is underpinned by feel-good values such as opportunity and social impact, alongside a focus on freshness, quality and local sourcing, while also being a fertile training ground for West Cumbrian catering students and graduates.

By buying a voucher you are directly supporting local artists, trainees and apprentices, investing in the future of our community and the national and international quality of our work.

  • One word: Superb. Lovely, intimate theatre, great facilities, lovely restaurant and a top class performance. The West End comes to Whitehaven.

  • Being new to the area we had not visited before, what a gem. An intimate theatre in the countryside just outside Whitehaven. Built in 1959 the venue has excellent facilities with a bar and a high end restaurant called the Green Room. There is a large car/coach park and great access for the disabled. There is something for everyone with a diverse range of arts and entertainment from music, theatre, talks, comedy, shows for young people and more.
